Privacy Policy
Last updated: July 22, 2026
Paint the Town ("the app") is built and operated by Simon Builds. This policy explains what information Paint the Town collects, why, and what happens to it. The short version: we collect only what's needed to plan dates and trips for you, we don't run ads, and we never sell your data.
What we collect
- Account information. Your name, email address, and a password (stored as a secure hash), used to sign you in and keep your data yours.
- Taste profile. The preferences you enter — cuisines, activities, music, drinks, venue style, home city, and typical budget. This is the data that makes plans personal.
- Plans and history. The date and trip plans you generate, save, schedule, and complete, including your thumbs-up/down feedback on venues. Venue history is used so we don't suggest places you've already been.
- Anniversaries you add. Occasion names and dates, used to schedule your reminders and stored with your account.
- Partner link. If you link accounts with your partner, each of you can see the other's display name and taste profile (preferences only — never plans, history, or account details), and plans are generated against both profiles. Unlinking removes this access immediately.
- Date journal. The ratings, notes, and photos you add after a date. Journal entries are visible only to you; photos are stored under your account in a bucket that serves them via unguessable links.
- Share links. When you share a plan "as a surprise," we create a link that reveals only your first name, the day, the be-ready time, and the number of stops — never venues, places, or costs. Anyone with the link can see those details, so share it only with your date. Deleting the plan disables the link.
- Push token. If you allow notifications, a device push token so we can tell you when your plans are ready.
- Usage metadata. Counts of plan generations (to enforce fair-use quotas) and technical usage measurements (AI token counts) that contain no personal content.
What we don't collect
- No location. Plans are generated from the city name you type. Paint the Town does not request or collect your device location.
- No calendar contents. Calendar access (if you grant it) is used only to add plans you choose to your calendar, on your device. We never read or upload your existing events.
- No advertising identifiers, no third-party analytics trackers, no data brokers.
How plans are generated
When you request a plan, Paint the Town sends your request (city, date, budget, preferences from your taste profile, and any notes you type) to Anthropic's Claude API, which performs live web searches to find real venues. Anthropic processes this data to generate your plans and does not use it to train models. Don't include sensitive personal information in free-text notes — it's sent as part of the planning request.

Data retention and deletion
Your data is kept while your account is active. To delete your account and all associated data (profile, plans, history), email simonshih@hotmail.com from the address on the account — deletion is completed within 30 days. You can also clear individual saved plans in the app at any time.
Security
Data is encrypted in transit (TLS) and at rest. Database access is protected by row-level security, meaning your records are readable only by your authenticated account.
Children
Paint the Town is not directed at children under 13 (or the minimum age in your jurisdiction) and we do not knowingly collect data from them.
Changes
If this policy changes materially, we'll update this page and note it in the app. Continued use after changes means acceptance.
