Frequently asked questions

Where is my journal stored?

Entirely on your device, in a local database. There is no account and no cloud. Your entries are included in your normal iPhone backups (iCloud or computer), so restoring your phone restores your journal.

How do I back up my journal?

Settings → Backup → Export backup… creates a single file containing every entry and photo. Save it to Files, iCloud Drive, or anywhere you like. To restore or move to a new phone, use Import backup… with that file. We recommend exporting regularly — with no cloud copy, the backup is yours to keep safe.

How do I lock my journal?

Settings → Privacy & security → Lock journal. Inkwell then requires Face ID (or your passcode) every time it opens. If your device has no biometrics set up, enroll Face ID in iOS Settings first.

Can I write about a past day?

Yes — open the Calendar, tap any date, and add an entry there. You can also change an existing entry's date and time by tapping the date at the top of the editor.

What does Pro include?

Inkwell Pro is a one-time $9.99 purchase — no subscription. It unlocks unlimited photos and drawings per entry, On This Day memories, and PDF export. Writing, moods, the calendar, search, and JSON backups are free forever. Use Restore purchase in Settings if you reinstall.

Why don't links in my entry open?

Links you type appear as tappable chips just below the text while editing. Tap a chip to open it in your browser.
