The short version: your journal stays on your phone. Inkwell has no accounts, no cloud, no analytics, no tracking, and no servers of ours. We could not read your journal if we wanted to — it never reaches us. The only data that ever leaves your device is what you export yourself, and purchases processed by Apple.
What Inkwell stores
Your entries, photos, drawings, moods, and settings are stored in a local database and files on your device. They are included in your normal device backups (iCloud or computer backups of your phone, controlled by your iOS settings). We cannot see, access, or recover this data. Deleting the app deletes the data on the device.
Journal lock
If you enable the journal lock, Inkwell asks iOS to verify you with Face ID or your device passcode. Biometric data is handled entirely by iOS — Inkwell never sees it, stores it, or transmits it.
Reminders
The optional daily writing reminder is a local notification scheduled on your device. It does not use a server and sends nothing anywhere.
Backups and exports
Backups (a single JSON file with your entries and photos) and PDF exports are created on demand and handed to the iOS share sheet. Where they go — Files, iCloud Drive, AirDrop, email — is your choice, and they never pass through our hands. Anyone with access to an exported file can read it, so store exports somewhere you trust.
Purchases
Inkwell offers a one-time upgrade purchased through Apple. Purchases are processed by Apple and validated by RevenueCat, our purchase-management provider, using an anonymous identifier and your App Store receipt. This does not include your name, email address, or any content from your journal. See RevenueCat's privacy policy.
Data we collect
None. Inkwell contains no analytics SDKs, no advertising SDKs, and no crash reporters. We collect no personal information of any kind.
Changes
If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted at this page with a new effective date.
